| A numbered pay check was issued
weekly to each employee. They were numbered to denote
seniority, and (usually) an abbreviation added to indicate the issuing
depot or garage. There were variations over the years & other
checks, for example to allow admittance to the staff toilets at some
facillities. On pay day, the check would be handed to the depot pay clerk in exchange for wages. (Thanks to Brian Longworth for this info) |
